Kailee Kurokawa

Kailee Kurokawa

Sport: volleyball

There were no shortage of candidates for this honor, especially on Hilo’s girls volleyball team, which claimed its first BIIF Division I title since 2001.

A pair of Kurokawa’s teammates, Kawai Ua and Taina Leao, were also deserving, but the junior setter gets the nod for helping to guide the Vikings to victories against Kamehameha in the semifinals and Waiakea in the final.

According to statistics provided to the Tribune-Herald, Kurokawa was an all-around force in the two matches, posting 93 assists, 10 kills, 20 digs and eight blocks, while never leaving the court.
